September 2012 - Highlights

  • a new report suggests. The study, by the European University Association and several other groups, shows that while many individual institutions and national higher education systems on the continent have in place structures for tracking the movement of students and graduates, the extent to which higher education leaders make use of the data varies widely. European colleges and universities are facing increasing calls to show that their students are progressing academically and their graduates succeeding in the job market, and to be more publicly transparent about their outcomes. The report is designed to examine the “state of play” on following learners’ and graduates’ progress across institutions in the 32 higher education systems in Europe. The study is part of a new effort named TRACKIT.- Read more:

  • mLearning scenario’s for adult education - An excellent book on mobile learning covering some theoretical and practical considerations, but most interestingly: 7 mLearning scenario’s for adult education. The book can be downloaded here - The book was written for the European supported Lifelong Learning strand. It was rolled out during the final conference in London (22 June 2012) where the results of the MyMobile project were shared ( )

  • RIAN - Pathways to Irish Research. is the outcome of a sectoral higher education project supported by the Irish Government's 'Strategic Innovation Fund'. Project planning was carried out by the seven Irish university libraries, DCU, NUIG, NUIM, TCD,UCC, UCD, UL and was supported by the Irish Universities Association (IUA).

  • Key Trends in Teaching & Learning: Aligning What We Know About Learning to Today's Learners, the closing plenary from CNI's spring 2012 membership meeting, by Phillip D. Long, is now available on CNI's two video channels: YouTube: Vimeo: - In his talk,Long considers some of today's most significant trends in teaching, learning, and technologies, and he explores technology's potential impact on higher education.

The President is keen that IADT participates in the Undergraduate Awards. Please would you encourage your Schools to inform students about the awards. The second round of nominations is now open until 18 March. Students submit their essays and the competition is open to final year and penultimate year students in 2010-2011 and final year students in 2009-2010 are also eligible.

There is a wide range of categories (and sub-categories) including:

OAPEN - (Open Access Publishing in European Networks) is a collaborative initiative to develop and implement a sustainable Open Access publication model for academic books in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
